8-Day Rwanda Uganda Experiential Safari (Gorilla Trekking & Wildlife Experience)

This 8-Day Rwanda Uganda Experiential Safari starts from Kigali Genocide Memorial and then heads to Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee trekking and a canopy walk. You’ll also pay a visit to the famous Volcanoes National Park for Golden Monkey Tracking and Iby’lwacu Cultural Village. Head for the border crossing road trip to southwestern Uganda to find mountain gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. After gorilla trekking, your guide will lead you to the zebra magnet of Lake Mburo National Park.

8-Day Rwanda Uganda Experiential Safari Highlights

Day 1: Arrive in Kigali and Visit the Genocide Memorial

Arrive at Kigali Airport, then transfer to Kigali for a city tour. You will pay a visit to the genocide museum, the Genocide Memorial Center at Gisozi, which has collections of the consequences of the genocide of 1994. From there, head back to your hotel for a relaxed overnight.

Day 2: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After having an early breakfast, you will be transferred to Nyungwe Forest National Park. Have a visit to the old palace in Nyanza on your way to the park. In the afternoon, you’ll go for a canopy walk. The canopy walkway in the Nyungwe Forest National Park in southwestern Rwanda is 50m above the ground level, and 90m long.

Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking and Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Have an early morning breakfast, and later proceed to Nyungwe Forest to search for chimpanzee. You will also track the Colobus monkeys in the forest and have a chance to view the other inhabitants of the forest like birds, reptiles, and butterflies. Chimpanzee tracking will enable you to meet man’s closest cousins in the wild.

Day 4: Golden Monkey tracking and Iby'lwacu Cultural Village

After an early breakfast at the lodge, you will head out to Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a golden monkey trekking experience. The trek will take you through lush forests and scenic landscapes as your experienced guides share their knowledge about the golden monkeys and the park’s diverse ecosystem. Upon finding the golden monkeys, you will have the opportunity to spend an hour observing them.

Day 5: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

You will have breakfast and begin your journey to Western Uganda. The Bwindi Forest is indeed a remarkable and biodiverse destination with a unique history, making it one of the most popular places in the world for gorilla trekking.

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking & Batwa Community Visit

Wake up early and have a hearty breakfast to fuel yourself for the day ahead. After breakfast, you’ll be driven to the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park headquarters for a briefing on gorilla tracking rules and safety guidelines.

Following the briefing, you’ll be assigned to a gorilla tracking group, along with a professional guide and park rangers. Your group will then embark on a trek through the dense Bwindi forest in search of a habituated gorilla family. The duration of the trek can vary, but it typically takes 2-6 hours to locate the gorillas, depending on their location.

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Mburo National park

After having an early breakfast, start your journey to  Lake Mburo National Park. Embark on an evening game drive. This park is famous for zebras, impalas, giraffes, elands, buffalo, and many tropical bird species.

Day 8: Departure

After having an early breakfast, start your journey to Entebbe International Airport to catch your air transfer back home.
